The Encore : Who is Jesus Christ?

Last week we had another great and jam packed session for talk 2. Realizing the absolute importance of this person Jesus Christ in our salvation from sin and Satan and our return to God, we naturally would want to know more about Him.  And so we ask the question, “WHO IS JESUS CHRIST?”.  Being Christians, we just naturally take for granted our conviction that Jesus is the Son of God.  But is he really worth paying attention to?  Shouldn’t he be on the same level as Buddha, Confucius, Mohammed, Socrates, or other wise men or moral teachers?  Jesus was unique and has had a greater impact on the course of human events more than any other person.  But what really set him apart was his claim to be God, which none of the other founders of great world religions ever claimed.  With this claim, we can only look upon him as either a liar, a lunatic or in fact the Lord.

Jesus Christ has been called many things by many people, including a great man, a great teacher, and a great prophet. There is no legitimate scholar today that denies that Jesus is a historic figure that walked on this earth about 2,000 years ago, that he did remarkable wonders and acts of charity, and that he died a horrible death on a Roman cross just outside Jerusalem. The only dispute is whether Jesus was God incarnate who rose from the dead three days after His crucifixion. These are all matters of historical record that can be earnestly discovered and tested. Jesus told us who He was – He didn’t mince words. “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” (John 14:6). (from allaboutjesus.org)
