Shell CLP : Talk 1 and 2

August 11, 2011

Since we had to cancel the first talk to keep the facilitators and participants safe from the storm that hit
the country, Talk 1 and Talk 2, “God’s Love” and “Who is Jesus Christ?” of our “Fueled by Passion” CLP
was combined into a two-in-one talk last Wednesday, August 3, 2011. Here’s how the evening went,

Our registration team hard at work.

Some of the participants sharing a meal.

Laarni Madlangbayan, from Shell and part of the CLP team, Teaching everyone about the safety procedures at Shell House.

Carlo Cecilio, co-team leader for the CLP, welcoming the participants.

Nestle Jeturian, a long-time member of the SFC community, talked about the wonders of God’s love
and Jesus Christ. God’s love is present in the company of family and friends. It manifests itself in the
most important people, things and events in your life, down to the tiniest detail of your existence. It can
be found in the job that keeps the clothes on your back, the food on your table and the roof over your
head. Whatever your circumstance and situation, if you keep your heart open, God will make you feel
His redeeming love.

Juan “Dickoy” Magdaraog shares his inspiring story as he experiences the love of God in the face of
struggles and difficulties. Dickoy was diagnosed with Pompe disease, “a rare, and often fatal disorder
that disables the heart and muscles. The primary symptom is muscle weakness, progressing to
respiratory weakness and death from respiratory failure. There is no cure and no hope of remission.”
In spite of the challenges that he has to overcome, he feels the love of God because of the care and
concern of family, friends, and in some cases, complete strangers.

Participants sharing a laugh with Dickoy.

After Nestle and Dickoy’s talk. We broke the participants into smaller groups to discuss the topic.

Like Dickoy and the rest of us, Jesus Christ knows the sting of failure and the bitterness of defeat. If we
want to know who He is, we have to understand that He suffered betrayal, denial and abandonment at
the hands of the people that He loved and trusted the most. He endured emotional and physical torture
for sins that He did not commit. He was born, He lived and He died and in between, He went through
the same things that we also go through now. He was sad, lonely, miserable and heartbroken, too. The
only difference is that He was resurrected to ensure that the worries, troubles and pains that we go
through in this life will lead us to our eternal one.

Thank you again Dickoy, Nestle and Trina (wife of Nestle)!

The night starts and ends with music but what happens in between?
1
Here we find our heads, Princess & Nemboy preparing..
7
And soon Erick Abad, one of our unit heads, sheds the light about what God’s love is for him.
5
Paolo, on the other hand, opens his heart to how God’s love transformed Him and constantly moves in his life.
21
Here, we gather everyone to pray and thank God for what has happened.
37
Pretty soon, groups were formed and sharings began..
42
some explored all that’s been learned and given..
45
while others kept on sharing what brought them here..
46
of course for every sharer is a listener.
54
God’s love is everywhere! Pretty soon, I know you will find the only love that you’re looking for is here!

Quick Review on God’s Love

“For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare, not for woe! Plans to give you a future full of hope. When you call me, when you go to pray to me, I will listen to you. When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart, you will find me with you, says the Lord

-Jeremiah 29:11-14

God must love you so much that He compelled a friend of yours to bring you here in the clp, He fixed your schedule or maybe even broke your heart..point is in whatever shape your life may be in right now..God is telling you He loves you and He has a plan far greater than you can ever imagine! All you have to do is seek Him and you will feel Him always with you. Soon as you accept Him in your life you will feel your heart being transformed into how He created you to be..beautiful and wonderful. Soon too, you will discover that even in your deepest and most challenging state, you will find great strength because God is with you. And you know what? He loves you so much. As you read this, allow God to love you, open your heart so He can be with you. Think of Him, pray to Him, reach out to Him, treat Him like a bestfriend because God’s hands is always beside you, He is just waiting for you to reach out and cling to Him as a child clings to His Father.

What’s next??

See how, from a child full of hatred, to a youth renewed, to a man in God’s service and now a servant after God’s own, these transformations become all God’s work in his life.

Our sharer, Dickoy

Talk 8: Life in the Holy Spirit

August 6, 2009

Talk 8 will be in Penthouse, Makati Stock Exchange. Session will start at 7pm. Hope to see you there.

Josef Poe – a leader, a brother and God’s humble servant.

josefr

Josef is a very dear friend in the community; he carries funny stories of himself as he shares his life to many. We call him the “life of a party” as he loves spending quality time with his family and friends- sharing with them his passion for music, sports, a little bit of dancing, and most of all his love for our God.

His journey in Singles for Christ started in mid-2005, the year when he committed his all to our God. Since then he has been actively serving the community through the Household, Music Ministry, Prison Ministry, GK, SFC Chorale & SFC Band; he travels on mission to both local and international places to share God’s glory and victory in his life; and stays committed to living a life for our God.

True to his Indonesian name “Rahmat”, Josef is a blessing.

VJ Posadas

n835144737_840650_834

At first, VJ would seem like just any normal guy: busiest at work, happiest with close friends and family, likes to eat, loves to sleep, fond of facebook. A lot of people would consider him quite successful, being a consultant in Development Dimensions Intl. and co-owner of a hot Ilonggo restaurant in Greenhills. Get to know him a little more though and you’ll see that when he’s not busy raking in those new accounts and managing his restaurant, he also spends a lot of his time serving as a Unit Head in SFC Makati Chapter.

Interestingly, when he graduated from his CLP in 2005, he probably didn’t think he would be where he is now in the community. You see, VJ is one who will never consider himself “bibo”, and prefers to serve quietly and anonymously. He’s quite shy that way. But bibo or not, God has always called him.. and being a true servant of the Lord, he has always responded. Ask him to share, do a talk, lead a household – when really called to step up, he will in all likelihood say yes even if it means being in the limelight for a little while. In 2008 he even took that big leap and answered the call to go on mission and serve our brothers and sisters abroad, in Africa no less! And so by no conscious effort to be recognized – only through his quiet strength and great faith – has he gone from being a member to household head, to Unit Head and missionary. Not so anonymous anymore; definitely not just any other guy after all.

*Just in case you are curious to know which restaurant in Greenhills is his, check out that one place whose endorser looks a lot like him. Hint: that celeb’s name starts with an Alfred and ends with a Vargas 🙂

The Encore : Who is Jesus Christ?

June 23, 2009

Last week we had another great and jam packed session for talk 2. Realizing the absolute importance of this person Jesus Christ in our salvation from sin and Satan and our return to God, we naturally would want to know more about Him.  And so we ask the question, “WHO IS JESUS CHRIST?”.  Being Christians, we just naturally take for granted our conviction that Jesus is the Son of God.  But is he really worth paying attention to?  Shouldn’t he be on the same level as Buddha, Confucius, Mohammed, Socrates, or other wise men or moral teachers?  Jesus was unique and has had a greater impact on the course of human events more than any other person.  But what really set him apart was his claim to be God, which none of the other founders of great world religions ever claimed.  With this claim, we can only look upon him as either a liar, a lunatic or in fact the Lord.

Jesus Christ has been called many things by many people, including a great man, a great teacher, and a great prophet. There is no legitimate scholar today that denies that Jesus is a historic figure that walked on this earth about 2,000 years ago, that he did remarkable wonders and acts of charity, and that he died a horrible death on a Roman cross just outside Jerusalem. The only dispute is whether Jesus was God incarnate who rose from the dead three days after His crucifixion. These are all matters of historical record that can be earnestly discovered and tested. Jesus told us who He was – He didn’t mince words. “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” (John 14:6). (from allaboutjesus.org)

God’s Love

June 6, 2009

Yesterday we had a great turnout of participants for our first talk. Inspite of the bad weather, we all came and got reminded about “GOD’S LOVE”, which,  speaks about God’s wanting to bring us out of the confusion and disorder that is being experienced in the modern world, and to bring us all back to Himself, to restore our fellowship and intimacy with Him.  There is something seriously wrong with the situation of the world today, and behind most of the disorder and evil is Satan.  Only God can bring us out of this, and He has done it by sending His own Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to suffer and die for us.  Salvation has come to us in Jesus.

Here’s some images from yesterday.
