Talk 7: The Christian Family

Hi All,

We will have Talk 7 tomorrow at Santuario. Please be there by 7pm. Kuya Aldy and Ate Joy Katigbak will be the Speaker/Sharer for this session. Hope to see everyone tomorrow!

When you ask a single person in SFC what their dream is, maybe one would answer to own their dream car or to have their dream job but most would say, to have a loving spouse and cute kids or to one day have a happy family who serves God.

For us, it is still a dream but for our speakers, they are already living that dream. Aldy and Joy met in college, fell in love and (fast-tracking a bit) just recently celebrated their 17^th wedding anniversary (though they look very young J). They have been in the CFC community for 14 years and have been serving in the SFC ministry since 1997. Currently, they are the International Coordinators for CFC Singles for Christ worldwide. Serving with them in the community are their four kids: Lance (who is part of Youth for Christ), Nica and Justine (who are in Kids for Christ) and of course the ever adorable Matthew, who generously shares of his parents every time they have to be on mission.

With all the roles they have to play being the heads of a fast-growing and dynamic ministry, raising four children, caring for the SFC missionaries and other brothers and sisters in CFC, going around the Philippines and the world, along with the demands of work (they are not fulltime workers but “all the timers”), they still manage to be husband and wife to each other, holding hands as they grow in their personal relationship with God and serve Him together. With Aldy and Joy, “… and they lived happily ever after” is not a fairy-tale or a dream but will surely be reality.

Speaker: Edu Soliman

Edu Soliman Jr.

Ernesto Raymundo Jose Soliman Jr. or Edu, as he is fondly known as, is always on top of the world, literally.  You see Edu spends most of his time above the clouds flying a Cebu Pacific plane.  He loves being a pilot and he loves being an SFC. 

 Edu’s love for God, his family and his friends combined with his determination to become a great pilot makes this guy the inspiring leader he is today.  He served as YFC and SFC leader in Australia for many years and now serves as a household head in SFC Makati. 

 Friends, meet Edu.

 

Sharer: Jonah de Lumen

Jonah de Lumen

Jonah has been in the community for several years now, staring with Youth for Christ or YFC and now, with Singles for Christ. Her family is also in the same community.  She worked in Unilever for the past couple of years and was expatriated to New York City where she worked as global brand manager for about 4 years.  Despite the fast-paced and worldly environment in the Big Apple, Jonah remained faithful to God and steadfast in her beliefs as a Christian.  She has always been a passionate SFC servant and leader wherever she goes.  After attaining much success abroad and traveling the world, Jonah decided to come back home and ‘give back’ to God and country.  Armed with trust in the Lord and boldness, she left her high-flying career in the US to devote her full time for Gawad Kalinga as Marketing Head of Bayan Anihan, the food sufficiency program of GK that will erradicate hunger in 2,500 poor communities all over the Philippines by 2011.  Inspite of her newfound career, she continues to serve as Household Head in the Makati Chapter, touching and inspiring many more.

Because of her love for God and neighbor, she is committed to God and service for others.  She is very grounded and looks after people and friend in her circle.  Excellent in all that she does, she uses her talents and gifts to praise and serve God and His people. Jonah is the perfect blend of beauty, brains and blessedness.

Tristan

Speaker: Tristan Haber

Tristan Haber grew up in the CFC community in Sydney, Australia. He moved there with his family at the age of 12 and that was when his dedication and love for God started. Being in a very religious family, he saw an inspiration to follow his heart and God’s leading in life. A member of the pioneering family in the CFC community in Australia, he found joy serving God as a CFC full-time mission worker for Youth for Christ and Singles for Christ. He has made friends around the world and inspired many through missions. Tristan is lover of sports and music and enjoys being the sound guy behind the sounds booth in conferences and concerts in Australia. His love for the youth and singles led him to work as a Youth Parish worker and became one of the key youth leaders in putting together the World Youth Day 2008 event in Sydney. Now residing in Manila, he continues to follow his passion in sounds, media and sports as an Events Producer.  An extrovert by heart, he loves being in company of family and friends.  He is also a devout Catholic who would defend his faith no matter what the cost may be.

Sharer: Carlo Cecilio

Carlo has been an SFC member for almost 4 years. He loves photography. It started off as a hobby but he then realized that his passion truly lies in capturing perfect moments made by God. He is now a master photographer for ImagineNation photography while serving in SFC as a household head under Rommel/Gen’s unit. He believes that “all things are possible with God” (mark 10:27) on your side.

Speaker: Tito Bes Villar

On top of being a businessman, our speaker Tito Bes Villar serves as a coordinator for Singles for Christ with his wife Tita Mabel. Under their care are all the chapters in the Central C sector which covers Makati, Pasay City, and parts of Manila. As a couple they have been serving SFC for 8 years. They have 2 children and their entire family is active in Couples for Christ and its family ministries.

Sharer: Rommel Briones

Rommel is the smallest kid in the picture (2nd from the right)

 Rommel is a kid at heart. He loves his computer games and will challenge you to Wii badminton on a whim. On the court, he plays his heart out until he breaks his little pinky! Seriously though the members of the unit he leads look up to him like a father, he really is a child who boldly and humbly takes on the challenges that his Father in heaven gives him each day, trusting that He will look after him, no matter what. He brings  dying to self and obedience to a different level by giving it all he’s got – even when it hurts. He gets things done with his own brand of loving leadership by inspiring other members though his example of untiring service and commitment. He is our very own GK ambassador and relentlessly leads Team Onyx in its enduring quest of bringing hope and love to the teens of GK Onyx and their families. His friends from way back may not recognize him now. Rommel’s life is a testament that it is impossible not to be transformed when you bask in God’s love and presence.
